Advanced Random Post – WordPress Plugin
Advanced Random Post è un plugin per wordpress che mostra nella home page un numero definito di post casuali. Nasce dall’esigenza di mostrare dei post scritti nel passato (normalmente non verrebbero mai visti) che potrebbero essere di qualche utilità per il visitatore di turno.
Per vedere il plugin in azione fai un salto sulla home page di questo blog e guarda il terzo post 
Caratteristiche
Nella pagina delle opzioni sarà possibile cambiare:
- Il numero di post casuali che verranno mostrati nella home page
- La posizione in cui i post random verranno mostrati (Ad es, in seconda posizione)
- Il nome da dare al titolo del post random (Ad es. “Random Post: Hello World!”)
- ….
Installazione
Scompattare lo zip nella cartella wp-content/plugins e attivare il plugin. Nella pagine delle opzioni, alla voce Advanced Random Post sarà possibile cambiare le impostazioni.
- Download Advanced Random Post – 0.2
- Download Advanced Random Post – 0.1.1
- Download Advanced Random Post – 0.1
Altro
Advanced Random Post, anche se ancora non ha molto di Advanced 
, nasce come miglioria del plugin Archivist (da cui è presa parte della logica), non più compatibile con WordPress 2.3 e oramai abbandonato al suo destino.
Advanced Random Post utilizza il WordPress Plugin Framework, ottimo strumento che fa risparmiare la scrittura di codice.
Warning
Il plugin viene rilasciato così com’è (AS-IS)! Nel caso in cui il vostro blog sia ridotto ad un ammasso di bit dopo l’installazione di questo plugin sono solo affari vostri e non miei .
Nel caso di bug, miglioramenti, suggerimenti e quant’altro, i commenti sono a vostra disposizione.
Troubleshooting
PHP5 – Per funzionare correttamente deve essere abilitato il passaggio dei parametri per valore, altrimenti viene visualizzato un warning. Questo lo si fa modificando nel file php.ini (se avete un hosting economico non penso che questa modifica ve la faranno fare) il parametro “allow_call_time_pass_reference = on”.
To-Do
Possibilità di selezionare solo un certo numero di categorie da cui prelevare i post randomPossibilità di selezionare solo un certo numero di tag da cui prelevare i post random- Prendere i post random solo da una determinata e predefinita lista di post
- Solo i migliori post… in base magari al numero di commenti (ok) o alle visualizzazioni(boh) (Thx Traffyk).

Selects a defined number of random posts from the archive and shows them on the front page

Selects a defined number of random posts from the archive and shows them on the front page
In the options page, you can change:
1. The number of post that will come shown in the Home Page
2. The position in which the post random they will come shown (for example, in second position)
3. The name to give to the title of the post random (To es. “Random Post: Hello World!”)
== Installation ==
1. Upload to your plugins folder, usually wp-content/plugins/ and unzip the file, it will create a wp-content/plugins/advanced-random-post/ directory.
2. Activate the plugin through the “Plugins” menu in WordPress
3. Go to “Options” administration menu, select “Advanced Random Post” from the submenu. Change some options.
4. Done

2. Delete old files
3. Upload new files
4. Activate the Advanced Random Post Plugin

Just wanted to let you know that your plugin is awesome but doesn’t work properly with the wordpress gallery feature in 2.5+.
On my blog when I have the plugin active, the second image in any gallery that shows up the home page produces a “Missing Attachment” error.

senza che l’ultimo post inserito sia visibile?
mi servirebbe per utilizzarlo su un sito di alberghi dove in home non interessa avere gli ultimi inseriti ma solo alcuni presi a caso.
se nel loop metto showposts=0 ovviamente non si vede nulla e neanche quelli random … consigli? critiche? insulti?

Il tuo plugin è davvero interessante e utile.
Ti volevo chiedere solo una cosa: si potrebbe utilizzare per generare un elenco di 5+ post da mettere nelle sidebar? Se no, hai un plugin che lo fa?
Altrimenti si dovrebbe modificare leggermente il codice, cosa che potresti fare tu velocemente oppure io un po’ più lentamente…

Pur inserendo peró i numeri delle categorie (Es. 3,15,20,16) mi visualizza ugualmente post appartenenti a categorie non menzionate (3,15,20,16).. ad esempio mi pubblica post della categoria con Id 17.
Cosa posso fare!

Here is a suggestion for a modified version that might be very popular.
If I don’t have time to post for a couple days, I will activate this plug-in so it appears I am posting (I have removed the dates from the posts). How about putting in a timer to the plug in that activates after a set number of days of no new posts? Call it the “lazy man’s blogging tool”. Otherwise, I have to remember to turn the plug-in on if I have not posted for a couple days and then turn it off when I do post, then turn it on again after a couple days. Back and forth. A new plug-in based upon this current one would simply add the timer.

I like your plugin very much and have just installed on my website mentioned above – WorldTripPlanner dot com.
I have a suggestion, which germinated after I faced a peculiar situation. The settings I have are:
1. my welcome post is sticky and has to stay on top
2. one random post goes at position 1 (indexed from 0)
3. reading setting is one latest post (this is compulsory as WordPress won’t allow 0 latest post)
So, my home page always has 3 posts as above. First peculiar situation came when the welcome post displayed twice – as sticky and as random – so I put all other posts in different category and opted the category display – thus excluding the sticky post from appearing in random post.
Now the new peculiar situation is that sometimes the random post and latest post are same
So, my suggestion is that to override such situation, the plugin should exclude the latest n posts from the random posts, where n is the no. of latest posts to display in reading settings.
Hope I could explain the peculiar situation with clarity.

Salve, ho provato a installare questo plugin, cui terrei molto, rimanendone inizialmente soddisfatto. Poi mi sono reso conto che con explorer, da un certo punto, si è continuato a vedere sempre lo stesso post a caso (con firefox il plugin ha continuato a funzionare). La cosa si realizza anche con altri computer. Disinstallando e reinstallando il plugin, il problema persiste, anche da altri computer, tranne che con explorer non si vede più proprio nulla (e anche sul tuo/suo sito, al terzo post della homepage, vedo sempre e con entrambe i browser lo stesso post (uno sulla bontà di dreamhost). Non riesco a capire come ciò possa accadere; suggerimenti?

For THESIS USERS: Usually, thesis users set POST-Image in a Field-Box and thesis thumbnail script resizes the images to thumbnail size, in Advanced Random Posts Widget Settings, the post images are specified by the field “Thumbnail Custom Field Name”… putting in the thesis custom post-image field shows the right images but those images are of the original size and eat up bandwidth…
I edited one line in the Plugin so that it uses the thesis thumbnail script….
FROM THIS:
if ($img)
$image = ”;
TO:
if ($img)
$image = ”;
just the URL to correct address on your server and you will be saving much bandwidth.
BTW, once again, thanks to the CREATOR for the plugin…..
